MXI 2020

The Tempranillo grapes with which we produced our MXI 2018 were grown at 900 metres altitude in what is known as “El Monte Alto de Pesquera” or “the Highlands of Pesquera”. This fresh, fruity wine was aged for a period of 14 months at the winery in very carefully chosen barrels of different capacities toasted with a medium char. This brand was born in 2016 as part of a new project at Familia Fernández Rivera and is vinified with dedication, love and respect for the land. Its launch provided a warm welcome to the new generations of our family coming into the
business.

Viñedo y Elaboración
SITUATION: Located within the Pesquera de Duero municipality, the vineyard is south-facing and lies at an altitude of over 800 metres.
superficie: 200 hectares (nearly 500 acres) in total.
suelo: Sandy loam.
clima: The 2018 growing season began after a characteristically cold Ribera del Duero winter, during which temperatures dropped to as low as minus 12°C. The weather stayed cold during the early part of spring. Despite these conditions, the vines began budding on the usual dates at the end of April. After a very dry 2017, rain arrived at the end of winter and brought a continuous period of wet conditions throughout the whole of spring. This high level of rainfall made 2018 a particularly wet year overall in our area. Vine vegetation growth was favoured by these conditions, while the high water reserves accumulated in the soils led to a substantial increase in the size of the berries on the vines. Despite temperatures being higher than usual during the months of September and October, this larger berry size slowed down the ripening process.
vendimia: At picking, the grapes were healthy and of outstanding quality.
envejecimiento: Aged 14 months in our cellars in carefully chosen barrels of different capacities.
