Dehesa 14 2002

A signature wine that has been aged more than 14 years in the underground cellar of Dehesa de la Granja. Its ageing period and the quality of the Tempranillo grapes with which it is made set it apart from the other red wines of Familia Fernández Rivera.

WINERY: Dehesa La Granja
BRAND: Dehesa 14
VARIETY: 100% Tempranillo
LOOK: Lovely and attractive ruby red colour with orange hues.
SMELL: On the nose, toasted wood, as well as a noble fruity character, can be perceived. There are hints of tobacco, chocolate, cocoa, roasted aromas, and even balsamic hints. These give it a marvellous smell—powerful, elegant and with a lot of personality.
TASTE: It is smooth, elegant and temperamental on the mouth. It reminds us of black plum compote and dates, giving this wine depth and structure.
CONSUMPTION: Decant approximately forty-five minutes before tasting to remove the sediments inherent to its long ageing process.
PAIRINGS: Roast suckling lamb and pig, red meat stews and small game dishes such as pheasant with plums.
DESCRIPTION: Vineyards located to the southwest of the province of Zamora, on the Dehesa la Granja estate, with a total area of 800 hectares of crops (120 of which are vineyards).
AGE: Average of 25 years.
SOIL: Formed by sedimentary sandstone, clay and limestone, which give rise to limestone soils on the surface. Loamy materials alternate with coarse and fine-grained sandstone. Altitude of the vineyard: 620–750 m.
climaTE: Extreme continental climate with arid Atlantic influences. Annual rainfall between 350–400 mm. The annual average temperature was 12 ºC–13 ºC. An extremely cold winter and a great number of hours of sunshine gave rise to exceptional grape quality—essential to make great wines.
AGEING: 24 months in American oak barrels.
