20 ALDEAS 2018, FROM THE CONDADO DE HAZA WINERY, RATED 95 POINTS BY THE WINE CRITIC JAMES SUCKLING

  • The American critic, James Suckling, rated some of the wines of Familia Fernández Rivera. Thus, 20 Aldeas 2018, from the Condado de Haza Winery, scored 95 points; Tinto Pesquera Reserva 2016 and Condado de Haza Reserva 2016, 94 points; Dehesa La Granja 2015, 93 points; El Vínculo Crianza 2016 scored 92 points; and MXI 2018, from the Tinto Pesquera Winery, 91 points.
  • Among the wines that obtained the highest rating, Suckling highlighted 20 Aldeas 2018, from the Condado de Haza Winery, for “its soundness and the quality of the organically grown grapes” and “the concentration showing the characters of blackberries, blueberries and black walnuts”.

Madrid, October 2020.- James Suckling, the American wine critic, rated some of the wines of Familia Fernández Rivera. He gave all of them a rating higher than 91 points, with 20 Aldeas 2018, from the Condado de Haza Winery, scoring the highest: it obtained 95 points. In addition, the critic rated Tinto Pesquera Reserva 2016 and Condado de Haza Reserva 2016, both receiving 94 points; Dehesa La Granja 2015, with 93 points; El Vínculo Crianza 2016, which scored 92 points; and MXI 2018, from the Tinto Pesquera Winery, with 91 points. Condado de Haza Reserva 2016 with the same number of points as Tinto Pesquera Reserva.

As for 20 Aldeas 2018, from the Condado de Haza Winery—the latest wine that Familia Fernández Rivera launched onto the market—, the wine critic gave it 95 points, the highest among those in his recent rating, for its “use of organically grown grapes in its production, its nose reminiscent of blueberries and blackberries, as well as toasted oak and coffee, and its flavourful finish”.

Tinto Pesquera Reserva 2016 and Condado de Haza Reserva 2016 got the second-highest rating of 94 points given by the expert. Suckling highlighted the former as a red “with a medium to full body and a gorgeous finish” and continued by saying that it is “compact and concentrated with aromas of blackberries, blueberries and black walnuts, aside from notes of lavender and violets”. With regard to Condado de Haza Reserva 2016, he praised its body, flavour and extravagance.

In contrast, Dehesa La Granja 2015 was awarded 93 points and was described as an “extremely aromatic wine with blue fruit, oak bark and a character similar to black tea”, aside from its “medium to full body and its tight and chewy tannins”.

The fourth among the wines of Familia Fernández Rivera that received more than 91 points from this specialist was El Vínculo Crianza 2016—specifically with 92 points. The critic highlighted this red’s “fruity notes, chewy body” and, particularly, “its flavourful finish”.

 

Lastly, James Suckling rated MXI 2018, from the Tinto Pesquera Winery, with 91 points. He emphasised “its lively fruit notes on the nose, such as cherry and blackberry”, following through to its “body, round and creamy tannins, and a smooth finish”.

On his website, James Suckling rated a large number of Spanish wineries. They tasted a wide variety of Spanish wines and scored each of them afterwards.

The ratings given by the crtitic are testimony to the exceptionality and quality of the wines from the wineries of Familia Fernández Rivera. In this way, the winemaking group continues in its efforts to remain the benchmark and main driving force behind the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin, as well as one of the greatest proponents of this Designation and the wines made in Spain beyond our borders.
